Welcome to our January capsule wardrobe!

This Lahja Dressing gown kit is worth £78.30 if purchased separately!

Welcome to our first capsule wardrobe box. I am so pleased that you have joined us. I have chosen this pattern to kick start our capsule wardrobe series as this (in my opinion) is a must have wardrobe staple!

This pattern really stood out to me because it has a great size band, is suitable for both males and females, can be made in a wide range of fabrics and most importantly it has pockets!

The Lahja dressing gown is a casually straight-cut unisex garment. The Finnish word ‘lahja’ means ‘gift’ and, as the name suggests, these dressing gowns are a great gift either for your friend or yourself! There are two versions; a shorter knee-length gown with cropped sleeves, and a longer version that extends to midleg and has full-length sleeves. Both variations feature large patch pockets and a belt fastening.

I have paired this pattern with a soft navy cotton waffle fabric. I love nothing more than a good spa day and the waffle fabric jumped out at me as soon as I started to look at fabrics for this month’s box as it reminded me of relaxing in the spa! I have opted for a classic navy in colour to give your garment a little more character than a standard spa dressing gown. I would prewash this fabric prior to making your garment as this is a woven cotton and the fibers can contract a little when washed for the first time.

I found the pattern very true to size, I made a medium long length and am very happy with the fit. The length is LONG so if you are shorter than me (5ft 5’’) then you may find the long, too long. Don’t let that put you off though as you can always cut some off before you hem- don’t forget to cut you neck band down by the same amount you have cut off!

I found the sleeves nice and loose perfect for layering up over PJ’s. I did find the sleeve length a little on the longer side for me but that is easily fixed with a nice turn up when I finished the sleeves off.

This pattern would also work well in any non-stretch fabrics such as our Leicester Linen, Cotton Lawn, or even our selection of Viscose and Rayon for a really soft flowing gown.

I have compiled an online video to talk you though the construction of the Lahja dressing gown and this will go live on our you tube channel on Tuesday 1st February to give all of our subscribers time to receive there box and have the surprise of opening this before we share the contents online!
