Hemp fabric is made from the fibres in the herbaceous plant of the species cannabis sativa and it is often considered an environmental “super fibre”.
The Hemp plant is a very fast growing and high-yield crop that produces significantly more fibre per acre than cotton, making it much more sustainable. According to sources Hemp can
produce 250% more fibre than cotton and 600% more fibre than flax with the same amount of land. In addition to this Hemp does not exhaust the soil, instead it adds rich organic matter to the topsoil helping it retain moisture therefore requiring less water to grow. It also requires no pesticides, crowds out weeds without herbicides, controls erosion of the topsoil, and produces lots of oxygen. It is a renewable resource that can be cultivated in as little as 100 days and is frequently referred to as the world’s most versatile and eco friendly fibres in the world!
The usage of hemp fibre as materials for clothing is not something new, the fibres have
been used for thousands of years and materials made from hemp have been discovered in ancient tombs dating back to 8,000 BC.
Because Hemp is not colour fast it often creates beautiful, soft, muted colours giving the garment a natural look.
This product contains natural fibres so colour intensity may vary.
