Jute fibre is 100% bio-degradable and recyclable and incredibly versatile making it perfect for incorporating into buttons, weaving into fabrics and creating garments.
Just one hectare of jute plants consumes about 15 tonnes of carbon dioxide which is great for the reducing the temperature of the atmosphere, reducing the effects of global warming. It also releases 11 tonnes of oxygen for us to breathe.
Cultivating jute in crop rotations enriches the fertility of the soil ready for the next crop making it a more environmentally friendly fertiliser for farmers. Jute also reaches maturity quickly, only taking around 4-6 months, making it an incredibly efficient renewable material, and therefore “sustainable”. It relies on natural rainfall rather than extensive and hugely consuming irrigation systems meaning that there is less water drawn from taps, and it has a much less devastating impact on the land compared to water thirsty cotton.
