Recycled cotton is generally defined as converting cotton fabrics into cotton fibres that
can be reused to create new products. Recycled cotton is also commonly referred to as
regenerated cotton, reclaimed cotton, or shoddy and its content includes the recycled raw material, as well as reconditioned or re-manufactured components.
The recycled cotton fibres used in these buttons are made from pre-consumer waste which includes scraps created when weaving and cutting cotton fabric and excess production materials before being stitched into the final product for consumers- taking waste and turning it into something new.
The process of recycling cotton diverts a lot of waste from landfills; according to the Council for Textile Recycling, annual textile waste is estimated to equal 25 billion pounds. It also means that the amount of energy, water, and dye used is reduced compared to using virgin cotton since pre-consumer recycled cotton fibres have already been washed and dyed.
Recycled cotton can find new life in many different products such as insulation, fabric,
upholstery stuffing and of course - buttons!
