This unique shawl with a soft and floating drape makes the perfect summer cover-up. Crocheted using Scheepjes Whirl in colours 755 Blueberry Bambam and 781 Sea Breeze Tease, Scheepjes Whirlette in colour 852 Frosted and Scheepjes Mohair Rhythm in colour 689 Cha Cha, this is truly a stand-out design that is both a delight to behold and to create.
Alto Mare (High Seas in Italian) is a rectangular wrap with a curved border. The wrap is divided into two sections: the Waves section and the Sunset section, which contains the Sun and the rays. The Waves section is worked first, from side to side, back and forth, alternating Yarn A and Yarn B. The unused yarn is carried up to the side and later hidden in the second section.
The sunset section is worked in Yarn C, with the sun in Yarn C and Yarn D held together. Once the sunset is completed, the rays are added to the sun using Yarn D. Finally, a crab stitch border completes the curved edge. The Alto Mare Wrap can also be easily turned from a modern and extravagant piece to a classic looking wrap by omitting the Sunset section.
Made using a 3.5mm and a 4.5mm crochet hook.
